It is coming this week from what I hear! One of the most fabulous clerks at my local store had told me it was coming and by what I have been finding on other sites it looks like it will be here Wednesday.........here is a link from The Bargain Jargon which outlines the sale. If you like quaker oats, LIFE cereal (my husbands favorite), pancake mix or a few other items, this is the sale for you. I found $1 off 2 granola bar coupons online as well as $3 off 5 quaker products......if I do the math correctly and donot double any coupons, I may be able to score 5 quaker products for $1.00 .........I will post my results as soon as I tackle the store this week!

OK..... this week I tried a little harder to stay away from the stores. I bought a few things at the grocery store but other then that.....a pretty quiet week here. The best deal I did find was meat at Safeway! $1.69 a pound for steak.......originally the package I purchased was $38.00 and I paid $14.00 (I know that is a lot for me to spend!) I portioned it up before freezing and should be able to get no less then 6 meals out of it......maybe 7 or 8 depending on what I decide to actually make with it.
JC Penny is having their year end clearance (started today) and although they do have some great deals, I left with only one item purchased.....a $40 Adidas sweatshirt for my 12 year old priced at $9.99....not a bad week I must say!

This week I found some pretty good deals with year end clearance sales at many stores. Old Navy has their clearance merchandise marked down to 50% off the last marked price. I was able to find 7 shirts and 1 pair of jeans for $17! Target had their toys marked 75% off and I was able to find a few gifts for $5 each, baseball pants for $3.75 and batting gloves also 75%.

Wow that was a much longer break then anticipated!

I took a little break from blogging to try to gain some new insight and direction that I wanted to go with this blog and.....I have returned. I spent a lot of time looking at other blogs and realized that I don't want to just list great sales I find each week because I often can't take credit for finding them. I usually find them from others who have graciously pointed me in the right direction. I don't want to have a blog that tells you how to live your life based on my examples.......I do way to many things wrong for that! I have been frustrated with a few blogs I have followed this past few months because I don't always feel like the authors are honest if how they "report" their weekly savings or how they have stayed within a budget. I often find that key pieces in how they have done this are omitted or not a key piece of the information when the entry is first presented. Soooo all this to say I want to do things a little different. I will post some sales I find and links to some great resources I use each week when doing my shopping. I will post funny little things that happen in the ever-changing, chaotic, fun-filled, exciting life we lead her with 3 kids, a dog & a hamster. And a new category I will be posting to is one I will call "PERSPECTIVES".....boy do I have many entries to put in here just over the last 2 weeks! I hope this finds you all well and enjoying our new year! I do wish you all the best in 2010!

On sale this week (through tuesday 4/22) at Safeway...... Pork Chops $1.19 per pound! Not too bad I must say. I am heading there today to see how they look. I did not find many other deals this week when looking through the ads but if something turns up I will let you know. I think Fred Meyer had the best overall deals this week...especially since their produce routinely seems to be lower then other places. Our Walmart also has some fabulous deals on produce on a regular basis. Off to Safeway now..... I will try to post one of my husbands favorite pork chop recipes this weekend!

Coupon Frustration!!!!

I have been putting off making this entry only because I am frustrated and wanted to make sure I could convey my message without sounding too ticked off. My favorite grocery store (Albertsons) does not double coupons in our area however they have always taken competitors coupons which has saved me hundreds of dollars on our grocery bill! By being able to use other stores (both drug store & grocery store) coupons at one place it has been terrific, saving me the trouble of traveling to many stores to do our weekly shopping! As of last week, they will NO LONGER ACCEPT competitor coupons!!!! The reason they have given is that they have lost too much money in accepting these. I don't think they have stopped to consider all the people who do their shopping their BECAUSE they took competitor coupons!!! Sorry I am still a bit upset over the whole thing!
Then to top it all off....I went to our other Grocery store in our town this week (Safeway) and was going to take part in the "mix & match"sale they have going on where you buy 10 items in one category and you save $5 off your total instantly! I found boxes of pasta for $.75 with $.50 blinkie coupons next to them making the pasta $.25 a box!!! Yippee!!! So I went back home and tried to find some online coupons to match up with the items in the mix & match sale and printed them out! More Savings!!!! I got to the store with all my items in my cart and gave the cashier the coupons and he said "Sorry...... we CANNOT accept any duplicate coupons even though your computer prints out two....we can only accept one per your entire purchase!) Needless to say I ended up at the customer service desk! They did not budge! Safeway has a NEW POLICY of only accepting one computer printed coupon per order for a particular item.... meaning if you want to packages of oreos and have to coupons printed from your home computer for them, Safeway will not allow you to use both coupons. You can only use one coupon for one oreo and the other oreo you buy at the shelf price....no coupon!) Boy this whole coupon thing is frustrating! I have never liked coupons but I do see the big picture & how they can save you alot of money in the long run but it sure is frustrating!!!! Ok they next post I will try to find something more positive to talk about!!!!

Chicken Spinach Roll

This is a real easy recipe once you get the hang of it. It is one of my kids favorites!

Chicken Spinach Roll
1 Package Phyllo Dough Pastry Sheets (thawed)
2 cups cooked chicken chopped up
8-10 oz Havarti Cheese shredded
2 packages chopped spinach thawed and drained
A dash of garlic powder
4 Tbsp melted butter.

Mix spinach, cheese, chicken and garlic in a bowl. Use one pastry sheet. Brush with melted butter. Put second sheet on top and spread with butter….repeat until you have 5 or 6 pastry sheets. Put 1/4 to 1/3 spinach mixture down the center (lengthwise like a cinnamon roll). Fold two shorter ends up about 2 inches and two long sides in so your rectangle is now about 1/3 the size you started with. Place seem side down on cookie sheet. Brush top with butter (repeat for 2 or 3 more rolls depending on how many you need). Bake about 40 minutes at 375 degrees

Cabbage Salad

This is one of my favorite recipes and with St Patricks Day fast approaching I sure you will be seeing cabbage on sale!

Cabbage Salad
1 head cabbage
1 bunch of minced green onions
1/3 C butter
1 package of ramen noodles, broken up
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
1 cup almonds - slivered or diced or sliced
1/4 C cider vinegar
3/4 C veggie oil
1/2 C sugar
3 Tbsp soy sauce

Shred/chop cabbage, dice/mince green onions. Combine & leave in frig until ready to serve.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter. Mix ramen, sesame seeds & almonds in bowl. Add melted butter. Mix & put on baking sheet. Bake 15 mins or so, turn often, until brown. Let cool.
Combine vinegar, veggie oil, sugar & soy in small pan. Bring to a boil & let boil for 1 min. Remove from heat & let cool.

Right before you are ready to serve, combine all & stir.

You can do all of the steps days ahead of time if you need to. Great size for a dinner party.

You can also add cooped chicken to this salad! Delicious!!!!

Good Morning! I was trying to think about the best money saving advice I have had over the last couple weeks and aside from staying home and off the computer, my advice when you go out is to ALWAYS check your receipts before leaving the store. I think I have said this before but over the last several weeks I have found this ever so important! On several occasions, I have gone back to the customer service desk to claim $5 or more from misrung items and coupons not correctly scanned! Sooooooo again ALWAYS check your receipts!

I have found some great "stock up" opportunities this past few weeks that you may also find in your hometowns. There has been lots of winter clearance on clothes & toys, many "presidents day" sales this weekend and many coupons specials in our local grocery store fliers. Our Albertson's store is remodeling so they have had lots of items discounted around the store. I have found muffin mixes, canned food, small gifts, etc to stock my pantry back up. Make sure you check out the perimeters of your stores to find hidden treasures! I have been grocery shopping on Mondays and have not done a great job at keeping you up to date on a weekly basis as to what I have found since the sales seem to end before I get ready to get on the computer. I will try to do a better job when finding great deals that you all can take advantage of too. Hope you have a great Valentines Day!

I stumbled upon an amazing deal on Monday night (of course the sale ended Tuesday!) I still had time to do it twice though and stock up on some much needed pampers!!!! Here is what I found.....I went to Albertson's for their spend $30 on selected products, get $15 to spend on your next order deal. They also had a deal where you spend $30 on diapers and get $20 for your next order (in the form of a Catalina coupon at checkout). I also had a Rite Aid coupon for $5 off a purchase of $25 and it just so happened that last week Albertsons had a coupon that would double up to 3 manufacturers coupons (up to $1 each)! So here is how it was broken down:

3 packs Pampers diapers: 10.69 each = $32.07
less $5 off $25 purchase Rite Aid coupon = $27.07
less $20 Catalina for next purchase= $7.07
less 3 $1.00 Manufacture Coupon (Doubled)= $2.07

By the second trip they were out of the size I needed (and the next size up) so I bought 2 packages that I will exchange for the right size this week.

Ok..... one more this week that I found that was super helpful was the Rite Aid coupon for $5 off $25 or more. This coupon HERE can be used on your groceries since they take competitors coupons too! I actually used on diapers earlier this week to get a great deal that was running in conjunction with proctor & gamble. I have used it at my store twice and will continue to use them since you can print as many as you want.

Ok.... here is another terrific deal I did this week!!!!! Transfer a prescription to Rite Aid and receive a $25 gift card....... you can transfer 2 and receive 2 $25 gift cards! I was able to stock up on paper towels, garbage bags, sandwich bags, aluminum foil, toilet paper and I still have $$$$ left to use! The coupon for the gift cards is on the second paper of their advertisement this week.

Wow! What a week! Target has some fabulous clearance items right now... baby sweatpants & sweatshirts (up to 5T) $.98 each! Tons of clothes for 75% or more off! Old Navy has started their incredible 50% off the last marked price sale. My friend in Olympia, WA just got back and totaled up her purchase...... original $480.00........ paid $80.00! She is stocked up for next school year as well as some spring stuff for this year! She purchased 35 items! Not all stores have started this sale yet. She asked the store manager what the deal was and was told that the stores do not get notified until the night before the sale starts. Hopefully our store will get their notice soon!!!! I know many other stores are trying to clear out inventory right now as well so check your favorites! You may finds some treasures you can't afford to miss!

South West Chicken Dinner

Ok this is another $5 dinner....another one with chicken. It is super easy and the kids asked for seconds! Here it is:
Broccoli (1/2 bag).......$.50
Spanish Rice...............$1.00
Avocado......................$1.00
Sour Cream...................$.25
Baked Chicken............$2.15 (chicken 1 lb $1.68 Salsa 1/2 jar $.50)

Place chicken in baking dish. Cover with 1/2 jar salsa and about 1/4 cup water. Bake @ 350 for approx 30 minutes. Serve with sour cream if desired.

Chicken Strips & Potatoes

Here is my first $5 dinner. I made Breaded Chicken Strips, Baked Potatoes & Sweet Peas for diner the other night. Everyone had enough to eat and was very please with the meal. Can't beat that! Here is my breakdown for cost (I broke down each entree by price for your convenience)

Frozen Sweet Peas (1/2 bag).......$.50

Here is the chicken recipe:

Dip chicken tenders in egg then crushed crackers. Heat oil and cook till done.

We drank ice water

There is still $.40 left for this meal..... you could dip your strips in some honey mustard or ranch dressing, Add bread & butter or even some homemade applesauce!

Lean Cuisine & Albertsons!

I just got back from a quick trip to Albertsons and found a fabulous deal on Lean Cuisine. My husband takes these to work for his meal when I find a good deal. There are at least 30 different selections at our store to choose from. Each meal is usually priced at $4.99..... needless to say I do wait for a sale! Today I bought them for $1.17 EACH!!!!! I bought 13 meals and a can of beans for $16.98. The original price for all of this was $66.66 that is a 49.68 savings! I actually went twice because it was such a great deal and I have room in the freezer. The only catch I found was the you had to buy in multiples of 6 (all 6 could be different kinds or all the same it does not matter). I also received 2 catalinas from the register 1 for $1 off and one for $2.50 my next purchase of Lean Cuisine. Needless to say my second trip was even better!

Coupons! Coupons! Coupons!

For some reason I have found that the first part of the year is better for coupons then the later part. I could be wrong (maybe I just get tired of collecting them by mid year) but it seems like last year I had much better luck early on. I just stumbled across this website that outlines the coupons coming out in the Sunday papers each week. I am not sure if this is a global list or regional but I thought it was worth taking a peak at and comparing with our local paper. Here is her website link. It is called Taylortown Coupon Preview.
Now I must say first of all is that I am not a fan of coupons honestly. They take a lot of time and organization for a mom of 3 busy kids who has a job outside the home as well as many responsibilities at home. It at times does not seem worth the extra effort to save $.40 here and there. I must say though that I am never sorry leaving the checkout counter after using several $.40 coupons (the $1 ones make me even happier!!!) and having the extra cash in my pocket. All this to say that a few extra minutes with the Sunday paper and a hot cup of coffee often does pay off in the savings department. $5 Dinners

Oh I have a new subject I think I want to get going this new year that goes right along with the weekly menu planning and grocery deals...... $5 dinners! I will try to include the recipe & price for each of the meals. My goal is $5 or less for our family of 5 (one is only 14 months and doesn't eat as much as the rest of us!). I am thinking some of the meals may be $10 (or less) and we will get 2 meals from them (like a roast one night and french dips the next). I will keep you posted. In the mean time it is cleaning & organizing week for me. I love to try and start the new year off with a house that has had a thorough deep cleaning with rooms & closets organized. I have yet to accomplish this this past week with all our snow and Christmas but maybe this week I will get a bit more accomplished! Happy New Year!!

Holiday Traditions

I have been away for a while visiting family for Thanksgiving and therefore not been keeping up with all the great deals out there! I hope you all were able to stock up on turkey and supplies this last week or two and are now taking advantage of the fabulous deals that the stores are offering in hopes for you to spend your hard earned dollars with them. We have not ventured out to many stores due to the fact we need to haul whatever we buy back home but, looking in the advertisements, there have been lots of great deals to choose from! I have have had more time to just "hang out" over the last few days and have been wondering what people do for the holidays to celebrate and what traditions they keep each year. I thought it would be fun to list a few over the next couple weeks and incorporate a few recipes, crafts, gift ideas, etc. that my family has become accustom to over the years as well as some new ones we have yet to share. Easy One Pot Dinner

Here is a great recipe I tried tonight that my family just loved.

1 Polish Sausage or Kielbasa Link (thinly sliced)
2 cans green beans (or equivalent frozen)
1 potato per person (peeled and chopped into bite size pieces)
1 Onion (optional)

Saute onion in a little bit of olive oil. Add sausage. Cook till browned on both sides. Add beans and potatos. Stir gently. Cover and cook about 20 minutes until potatos anre done. Stir occassionaly to avoid burning. Serve.

I have to admit that I do not think I have ever purchased anything from Victoria's Secret before.....but after having a few minutes of free time on the computer (thanks to the time change) I found an awesome deal! Fabulous Fall Soup

I am not real fond of soup..... I eat it but it is not one of my favorites but for some reason this one caught my eye and it is fabulous!!!!! I have altered it a bit from the original recipe but is is still just as good!!!! Enjoy!

1 lb hamburger ....browned
1 can white beans
1 can black beans
1 can tomato soup
1 can water
2 cans (about 4 cups) beef broth
1 can diced tomatoes
1 cup red wine
garlic & basil (I just sprinkled a bunch in)
1/2 green pepper .... chopped
1/2 chopped onion
1 cup diced carrots

Pour all ingredient into a pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for at least an hour. I like to put it all in the crock pot on low for several hours then transfer to the stove for the last 15 minutes. During the last 15 minutes add 1/3 cup orzo pasta. Serve with shredded Parmesan cheese and a hearty bread!

Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnabons for the Bread Machine

Dough:
1 c. milk
1 egg
4 T. melted butter
4 T. water
1/2 box instant vanilla pudding
4 c. bread flour
1 T. sugar
1/2 t. salt
2 1/2 t. bread machine yeast

Filling:
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 t. cinnamon

Frosting:
4 oz. soft cream cheese
1/4 c. soft butter
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 t. vanilla

Put ingredients into machine in order listed (unless your machine
directs otherwise....mine requires wet things first, yours might require dry first.) Select dough cycle and start. Remove dough and punch down. Roll into 17 x 10 rectangle. Combine filling ingredients and mix well. Heat in microwave 10 seconds. Spread over dough as close to edges as possible. Roll into a tight log. Cut into 12 one inch slices. Place in lightly greased baking dish. Let rise for 20 to 30 min. Bake at 350 for 15-20 min.
Mix frosting and frost rolls when slightly cooled.

Oh I have to apologize I have not updated this in a while. The weather has been so nice here that I have been trying to get every last bit of sunshine I can before the rain starts! I did receive both of the photo books I made 2 weeks ago with the free online code from Allbelli. One turned out great and the other, although the photos were good, the print was not so good. I emailed them to see if they will reprint(the website says they will) so I will let you know how their customer service is.

Boy this week has flown by! I sat down with my coffee and newspaper this morning and then moved to the computer to see what I could find for some good deals. I am low on diapers and Target had Luvs on sale ...... 92 for $15.... not bad. If you buy 2 boxes you get a $5 gift card and Target had store coupons for $2 off a box as well...... sooooo...... this is a great deal! For those of you that don't know, Target has store coupons you can print off the computer AND you can use these coupons as well as a manufacturers coupon at the same time! Try A Full Cup and see what you can find that will suit your families needs. You have to log in / register on their site to become a user and print the coupons but I have never had a problem with junk mail coming to my inbox as a result of the site.

For those of you not in need of diapers, I found some other good deals today as well. I am stocked up this week on fruit and meat already so I focused on snack things for lunches, breakfast items and a few other things. They had a special , buy 10 item for $20 and get $5 off. Ok.....the free photo book is still free but they have started charging for shipping and handling. I just made another book for a gift and it came to $5.99 total. A Thought For The Day

Ok as I have been running around this week between work and errands, a quote keeps popping into my head I heard at a seminar a few weeks back. You see, my second job that I have (a bookkeeping job that I do from home 10-15 hours a week) ended suddenly about 2 weeks ago (the business closed down). I have been trying to think of ways to supplement the loss of income and what changes our family will need to make in the near future to account for this. The quote that keeps popping into my head is this (not sure where the quote cam from....sorry):

"Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of what you make of it"

This really helps me keep perspective on what is important in life and not fall into the "victim" role that is so easy to fall into. I have a choice to make, to feel sorry for myself and sulk or step up to the plate and figure out what to do to change this situation. I choose the latter choice, to step up and contribute to the 90% of my life that I have some say in. Ok..... maybe I am really not in control of my life but I can control the attitude I have towards it!

Staples Free Goodies

This week Staples is GIVING AWAY (yes giving away!!!) pencil sharpeners (limit 3 per person), 2 pocket paper folders (limit 10) and cap erasers for the ends of your pencils (limit 3 packages) absolutely FREE. I like to take the kids with me and let them get their limit as well and now we have a nice little supply to give to the teachers.
They also have binders for $.25 each and pencil holders for $.05. I like to find stuff like this also and keep it in my "extra box" along with crayons ($.22 at walmart) and other small stuff for road trips, stocking stuffers, birthday party bags, etc! There is no better time to stock up on these as there is when they are free or almost free!

Terrific Crock Pot Pork Chops

Here is a great recipe for Pork Chops that easy and delicious!

1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp garlic
1/4 tsp pepper
6 lean boneless pork chops
1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp tomato paste
Put pork chops in crock pot. Mix all other ingredients in a bowl and then pour over chops. Cook on high 3 1/2 hours. Cut recipe in half for smaller quantity or serve leftover meat warm on a dinner roll for a quick lunch.

What is your passion? If you could spend your time and energy on something...... a hobby, a special interest, a sport, etc....... what would it be?

I have many hobbies, many interests but the one I am most passionate about is photography. It helps me to see life in a different way. It's so easy to run from one thing to the next without taking a moment to stop and appreciate life around us, whether it be someone we love, a beautiful sunset or a tiny object we would normally overlook. Photography makes me stop and appreciate where I live, a toothless grin, the intricate details of a flower and so much more. I love catching the look on someones face when they do something they are so proud of or they discover something new. Photography for me, is a way to jump out of the crazy, busy lives we all lead and focus on living in the moment. What is your passion? Don't have one.....too busy? Life is short! Find one and experience life in a different way.

Ok I must say I thought I was reading the price tag wrong ...... but I was not. For some reason Albertsons had chicken (whole chicken) for $.39 a pound today. Not all their chicken of course but there were several. Sooooo I called one of my long time friends and she said buy 5 without hesitation and that is exactly what I did! So for $7.00 I brought home 5 nice size chickens. That was one of the best deals I have found for this week. A few other good deals are:

We're Back!

After spending 6 days camping at the beautiful Pacific Ocean we are finally back home and somewhat organized.... ok maybe not organized, just back home. I know there are some great back to school sales out there but have not had a chance to research any of them. Hopefully I will do that some time today and let you know if I find anything great. It is supposed to be in the 90's today and tomorrow and since we have not had any heat this summer.... (we celebrated when it hit 65 at the Ocean)..... we should be feeling pretty wiped out by Sunday when it starts to cool (then rain is predicted for Monday). We have had the strangest weather this summer! I am actually feeling a bit overwhelmed with my summer "to do" list and the length of summer we have left. The list is much longer then the number of days before school starts. Mondays and Fridays are reserved for the kids and doing something fun with them. Today, Granny is taking them to the Aquarium in Seattle along with their 3 year old cousin (us moms get to tag along too). I will post some funny stories about our trip and maybe a recipe or two later this weekend.

It's Fall!!!

This morning we woke up to Fall! We had heavy rain last night....... yes it does rain in July..... and this morning there is a light wind blowing. It is definitely not a morning to walk out in shorts and a tank top! Now don't get me wrong, fall is probably my favorite season. I just don't think we quite had summer yet though! Next week it is supposed to warm up a bit but for today...... it is fall!

Now that it is August.... hard to believe but true.....it'd time for me to start getting our fall routine in order. I like to try to have some quick & easy meals planned for those nights we have soccer practice, too much homework & after school events. I like to do a "spring" cleaning of the house including wiping down the blinds, baseboards, lamp shades and anything else that is now covered in dust from having the windows open all summer (the easiest way I find to do this is with the hose & upholstery attachments on the vaccum cleaner!). The carpet will get another good shampooing, the floors a little extra scrubbing, the "in" basket of papers needs filing, and the list goes on! The flower beds need a little cleaning up, the hedges need pruning (again!) and the wood for this winter actually needs to be moved to it's new location. Starting the school year of with our home and yard in shape always feels so great and helps our days run so much more smoothly. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer.... don't forget to get out and enjoy the sunshine while it is still here. Have a BBQ, do some camping..... make the memories with the kids that will last a lifetime. Don't let fall catch you off guard though. A little preparation now will definitely make the change of seasons a lot smoother!

Lowering Grocery Bills.... No Coupons Needed

I just read a terrific post over at moneysavingmom.com . The title is "Lower your Grocery Bill Without Coupons" . I think if you click on this link it should get your right to the article. There are some great ideas in the comment section at the bottom of the article as well. I do try to follow most of what she outlines in the article (except we do not have the Aldi store) and it does work. The one thing I want to say about reading other blogs is that you NEED to do what works for your family. Some of the comments are from those who have dietary restrictions, some from those who don't eat meat or have cut out dairy, some are from those who don't ever order "takeout"..... whatever the case may be please remember these are suggestions and you need to base your diet on what is best for your circumstances and family situation. We do eat meat and dairy as well as fresh fruits and veggies. I have been able to feed our family of 5 on about $75 a week. For some of you this is high, for some maybe too low, but it is what has been working for us (although I always have room to improve!!!!). I hope this helps you in your pursuit to stretch your dollars and get the most for your money.

London Broil

One of our all time favorite recipes is for London Broil. When top round steak is on sale (Safeway often has it Buy 1 Get 1 free) we usually stock up as it is delicious and we serve it when company comes for dinner. I try and pick a big one as I know it makes great leftovers! Here it is:

1/3 cup oil
1/4 cup honey
1/3 cup soy sauce
3 cloves garlic minced
4 tbsps ground ginger
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 top round or flank steak

Mix all ingredients together and pour over steak. Marinate for several hours or even overnight (the longer the better). Grill on BBQ until done. London Broil is usually serve medium rare to medium. Slice thin and on a diagonal.

Zucchini & Tomatos

It is nearing that time of year again when there is an abundance of zucchini & the tomatoes are falling off the vines....... ok I only have 3 little tomato plants but you know what I mean. Todd's mom sent me a recipe a few years back that puts both to good use.

First you slice up your zucchini and place a layer of it in a 9x9 baking dish. Next you place a layer of tomato slices on top of the zucchini. Then add another layer of zucchini followed by another layer of tomatoes. Top it all off with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese (the more the merrier in our home). Bake at 375 for about 30 minutes or so.... until the cheese is lightly browned and the zucchini is not hard anymore. The more I make this, the more I like it. Enjoy!

This week will be a bit busy as I am at the office 4 days this week instead of my usual 3. So this is what I have planned so far using what I have in my freezer and what is on sale:

Sun: Roast Chicken ($.78 per pound @ Albertsons)
Corn on the Cob ($.44 each @ Walmart)

Mon: London Broil (from the freezer)
Broccoli
Fruit Salad (fruit on sale this week)

Tues: Chicken Alfredo (left over chicken from Sunday)
green beans
french bread
raspberry cobbler

Wed: Steak Salad (left over london broil)
french bread
ice cream

Thurs: Pork Chops
Zucchini & Tomato bake
Wild Rice
ice cream

Fri: Hamburger on the grill (on sale this week)
fruit salad
chips

Sat: Not sure yet

All these are subject to change depending on the day & mood of the cook. I like to know that I at least have a plan to fall back on so I am not getting home and wondering "what on earth is for dinner"

7/27-8/2 Weekly Deals

Sitting down with the weekend paper and a fresh hot cup of coffee has become an early Sunday morning ritual for me. Today was no exception except for I had sweet little 9 month old trying to "help" me read the paper. Not so much help, but he sure is cute! Anyway, it is a challenge to read through the ads and plan out our weekly menu based on what is on sale and what I can pull out of the freezer (not to mention something that is quick, easy, somewhat nutritious and tastes good). The best time to buy most items are when they are at "rock bottom" price and when the you have a coupon for them. Some stores double coupons (not in this area though) and some stores take coupons from their competitors, which really helps cut down the number of store you need to go to in order to get your "good deals" and not lose your savings in gas. I actually usually only shop once a week at two stores, mainly Walmart for household and some food items and Albertsons since they take everyone else's coupons. There are several places to find coupons including the internet & Sunday newspaper. Sites like Coupons.com , Smart Source & Cool Savings are just a few that list current coupons. I will post our meal plan later but first here are a few good deals I found today.

Rite Aid: There is a coupon in their ad for a $30 gift card when you transfer a presciption to their pharmacy. I did this a few weeks back and was able to fill my prescription for $6 and then use my gift card to stock up on items that were on sale including paper towels, toliet paper, baby wipes, shampoo, ziploc bags, etc! I will probably end up transferring the prescription back to my regular pharmacy just so I have them all at one place, but for now it's fine where it is at. Plan ahead and get even more deals to stretch this gift card such as chex mix which is on sale for $1 a bag. Use this coupon ($1 off Chex) and get it for free (you can print the coupon twice)!

Target: Target has some great toys on clearance right now, some up to 75% off. They are making room for Christmas items from what I have heard. Selections vary from store to store just depending on what they have left in stock. I always like to have a few toys on hand for birthday gifts or for those days when a little "something special" is in need.

Fred Meyer: This weeks Washington cherries are on sale $1.88 per pound, Kraft BBQ sauce is $.69, broccoli crowns are $.98 per pound and fresh large peaches are $.98 per pound.

Groceries for the Week

Today was a mixed bag! Some great deals..... some not so great. If you are in need of school supplies, log onto your childs school website and download their class supply list for next year. Walmart has all their back to school supplies out and people are scooping them up! Crayola Crayons are $.24 a box, Glue sticks are $.22 for a pack of two, single subject notebooks are $.05 each. Some of the office supply stores (as well as Walgreens) are running great specials each week too so watch the store flyers for their great deals. As for groceries, Albertsons is having a good sale on General Mills and Betty Crocker items. Buy 10 items for $25 and receive $10 off your total (making them 10 for $15). I found many coupons on http://www.couponloop.com/ & http://www.coupons.com/ that coincide withthe sale. I ended spending $22 for 31 items and saved over $53.00 on the origional prices.... yahoo! I didn't do quite as good at the next store but all in all I am within my two week budget. One of my favorite sites for great deal alerts is http://www.moneysavingmom.com/. Starbucks!!!!

OK sooooo here is the first "deal" I have to list. Unfortunately I do not have a Starbucks card or I would be jumping all over this one!
Here's the deal..... If you have a registered Starbucks card, you can take that in to any Starbucks store on July 25-26, 2008 and get a free Vivanno blend. They are supposed to be wonderful although I have yet to try one. I will be posting more deals this afternoon. I am off to the grocery store this morning as well as a little "back to school" shopping (sad but true it is almost that time of year again!)
